We have worked many years in group homes with individuals with special needs, nursing homes, homecare, hospitals, foster home and currently our own home care Company in HRM.

My mother has stayed here a few times now, a few days each time. She has advanced dementia and it was hard to leave her for respite with new people…but it has been so wonderful! Denis and Nancy are very warm and caring hosts and knowledgeable caregivers.

Moms even recognizes them and the house when she arrives. It is a social, happy place for her to be. Tasty, homemade meals. She can relax or be social. Lovely time outside and birdwatching from the window. Add in the cats and dogs too! I rest easy knowing she is in good, loving hands.

My mother has stayed here twice and both times were wonderful! Denis and Nancy, the owners, are caring and compassionate and have lots of caregiving experience. My mother has significant health and memory issues, and I feel very comfortable that if anything went wrong, it would be handled properly here. It is wonderful to be able to have a break without worrying about your loved one’s quality of care. MacKeigan’s Guest House is very homey and nothing like a nursing home. Mom feels like she is going to visit friends when she stays with Nancy and Denis. From the home cooking and treats, the cat, the other guests, the comfortable room… it all adds to the homey atmosphere. I found this great place when I was desperate for a break, but nursing homes were closed for almost 2 years for respite care due to Covid. It would be hard to put Mom in nursing home respite care now that I have seen the alternative! They even send Mom home with clean laundry 🙂

We have trusted Denis and Nancy with respite care for my mother-in-law, who has some dementia and limited mobility. They treat her, and their other guests, as family members. She eats great food while she’s there, engages in oldies sing-alongs on the deck, has her hair done and nails painted… They don’t just look after her physical needs. They truly care for her while she is their guest. Using their services often allows us to keep her living at home with us, which is wonderful for her, for us and for our kids. MacKeigan’s Guest Home is a gem of a place.
